DESIGN EXPLORATIONS
Client: NOOR NOIR is a collection of jewelry inspired by the hidden treasures of the sea. Established in 2015, each piece is handmade and often features natural materials such as pearls, aquamarines and seashells. Handcrafted in Los Angeles, each piece contains emotions, feelings, memories that take on new life when worn.
Ask: Noor asked for an update to her logo, which had a clunky size, limited usage options, and did not convey the idea of simple, elegant jewelry.
Deliverables: New, scalable logos for print, web and packaging.
Design: The name Noor Noir means Light (Arabic) and Dark or Black (French). The client wanted to incorporate the waxing and waning moon symbols, which signified the juxtaposition of light and dark, as well as referencing the natural, changeable elements incorporated in many pieces. We decided on a more elegant, simple font, which was stacked to create a symmetrical design that would fit many different placements. I was drawn to the idea of simple circles intersecting and creating crescent moons, hinting at movement and only seeing part of a whole. The jewelry almost always features gold, and has a soft, feminine aesthetic that reminded me of blush, so a color palette was born.
