Context Magazine

Editorial Design

A magazine focusing on cultural appropriation, with the aim of highlighting the historical and political context that has shaped our modern framework for exchanging cultural norms.

Client

A personal project done to explore a topic I was interested in learning about myself and educating others on.

Project

A magazine with a bold, attention-grabbing aesthetic that communicated complex ideas in an easily understood way.

Design

The uniformly black and white photography avoided invoking a singular specific time period. This brought history and the present together as parts of a continuous story. The minimal color scheme illustrates a superficial approach to history, highlighting certain aspects of history but ignoring the colonization and oppression that have created patterns of cultural theft.
